Welcome to The Home Gym!
Let me be the first to welcome you to The Home Gym and applaud you on your choice to enhance your personal health and wellness. There are many options for health and wellness training these days and I am honored you are considering The Home Gym. My name is Jim Starshak and I am the founder of The Home Gym. Allow me to take a moment to share my background and philosophy with you before you start your new health and fitness program.
After helping people for several years, I started The Home Gym in Shawnee, Kansas in 2002 to bring health and fitness to busy people at their home, organization, or workplace. Initially, The Home Gym provided personal fitness training, professional health & fitness presentations, Tai Chi instruction, and American Heart Association and American Red Cross First Aid, CPR/AED, and other emergency preparedness certification classes. In 2010, I became a Master Trainer in Dr. Paul Lam's Tai Chi for Health program. As a Master Trainer, I train and certify new Tai Chi for Arthritis, Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, Tai Chi for Diabetes, and Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis instructors who will then start classes throughout their local communities. I also manage the Tai Chi for Health Institute's continuing education program and provide continuing education to Nurses, Physical Therapists & PTAs, Occupational Therapists & OTAs, and Fitness Professionals. In 2018, we moved the business from Kansas to Illinois. I am now only hosting and conducting Tai Chi and Qigong workshops and certifying new Tai Chi for Health instructors. Finally, while in Kansas I worked to help the Shawnee, Kansas and Johnson County Kansas Community Emergency Tesponse Teams (CERT). I am now applying those skills to assist Kane County, Illinois Emergency Management Services here in Illinois as a Ham Radio operator and with my CERT skills and training.
Ultimately, my goal is for you to meet your goals! If you are taking tai chi classes, you may want to purchase an instruction DVD to supplement your formal training and at tai chi book to help learn additional background and health information on tai chi. This will help you with your commitment to exercise and provide you with an opportunity to exercise or practice when I am not with you. Also, tell your family and close friends about your health and wellness goals; perhaps involve them in your tai chi or some physical activity you enjoy such as hiking, biking, or gardening to name a few. Their support for you will help you attain your goals and you all will have fun in the process.
